After the R.A.F.

1972

After his 12 years in the RAF Fire Service, Ron went to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) at Bedford (Thurleigh) in 1970. We were still living at Burton Latimer. He worked there until 1983 when he was promoted to Station Officer at RAE Boscombe Down. Two years later still climbing the ladder he was at AWE Aldermaston. Eventually he realised his ambition and became Chief Fire Officer at RAE Farnborough in 1990. Sadly that was short lived and he was needed back at Aldermaston after his old boss suffered a heart attack and Ron took over as Fire Chief at Aldermaston. He loved his work and was much respected by all 90 of his firemen at the various establishments that AWE covered. It was a sad day for them when he took early retirement in 1999. I have added various photographs and if anyone would like to add to them, please do. Thank you, Beryl
