Ron's Bench

I set out yesterday morning with a few butterflies, but needn't have worried. I thought I knew where I was going but the road did not seem as familiar with me in the driving seat as it did when I was the passenger. However I arrived with a few minutes to spare before being met at Burghfield Gate. After being signed in, mug shot taken etc, and watching a video on H&S, my kind Escort took me to the fire station, made a cuppa, and Karen and a few other firemen came in. They were all telling me how much Ron had done for them, and told a few funny tales. That all put me at ease and off we went outside to see The Bench. It was set round a huge weeping willow. A few more names had been added since being erected. The photographer arrived and we sat on the seat and thought of Ron with so much affection. I was a bit overwhelmed at the respect they showed to him. Pics taken, a few goodbyes, I handed in my Pass, and set off following Steve as far as the Theale roundabout on the A4.
